Survival of the Prettiest - The Science of Beauty

"Survival of the Prettiest" is 325 pages packed with information that will explain how your looks have influenced your life (surprisingly enough), from the time you were a baby. It then goes on to explain how and why this happens from a scientific viewpoint but in a very readable and enjoyable way. That is the noticeable difference with this book. Beauty is looked at from a different angle with the intentions of making you think about why beauty affects you and those around you and even why you are treated the way you are. And indeed, your looks have played a tremendous part on your life.

You will not find one recipe or how-to tip to make yourself more beautiful. Instead, you are offered well researched facts, presented in a way that will make you look at the role beauty continuously plays in your life. And there are tons of interesting pieces of trivia that will hold your interest as you turn page after page. For example, did you know that 1484 tubes of lipstick are purchased every minute in the US? And then it goes on to explain what the attraction is.

Nancy Etcoff is a faculty member at the Harvard Medical School as well as being on staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital, department of Psychiatry. She has won several awards for her research and her ideas have been reported on in the New York Times, Newsweek, Fortune and Mademoiselle magazine. But, "Survival of the Prettiest", is not a one woman project. A lot of research has gone into this book, evident in the 22 pages of reference material, not to mention the large number of friends and associates that have contributed to it's success.

There is so much interesting information that the audience for this book could range from the teen years right up to the golden years. The teens will put to use the information they learn from this book and the seniors will shake their heads and wish that they had read ths book sooner. It's one book that you aren't going to grow tired of reading.
