Hair Sticks and Their History

You might have thought that hair sticks were relatively new, but nothing could be further from the truth. They have been traced back to early Egypt and were made of gold and decorated with everything from shells to gemstones.

Other cultures decided that gold was evil and made theirs from ivory or wood. Again, some were highly decorated with bits of shells and coral.

What To Look For:
When choosing a pair of hair sticks, run your fingers over the surface. Any nicks or catches could grab and break your hair. They need to be as smooth as silk.

What If You Have Short Hair?
Believe it or not, your hair doesn't have to be long to be able to use hair sticks. On the site, I have fashioned an updo for short hair. The sticks can be inserted for quite easily.

My Hair Is Too Heavy
Hairsticks don't have to be used to anchor your hair in place. If your hair is as heavy as mine, use pins to hold everything in place and THEN insert the pins. It's that easy.
