Can't Stop Eating

Making a List

There are so many foods that pile on the calories and then you are hungry five minutes later. Today, we are looking at foods that are good for you and fill you up. Yes, they are out there and they are a dieter's best friend.

*Bananas
One small banana should be included in a special list containing nothing but wonder foods. The potassium is great for your blood pressure and here is something you might not know. If you eat anything salty, you should counteract the effect with a food containing potassium.

*Nuts
Lets face it, nuts taste great and they are surprisingly good for you. On the down side, they are high in fat. On the upside, it's a good fat, but you still don't want to over do it. Very few will fill you up quickly and research is telling us that they are also good for the heart.

Almonds are also especially good for your nails! A few a day is all it takes to help harden weak nails.

*Ice Water
I find that I snack a lot less if I carry a bottle of iced water around with me during the day. Research is also telling us that as women age, they need even more to prevent dehydration.

*Cottage Cheese
I rely on low fat cottage cheese, accompanied by well drained, well rinsed, canned peaches as a dessert. A small serving satisfies me, while the rest of the family has enjoys their own dessert. While it might not be your cup of tea, the point I'm trying to make is that there are desserts out there that you can substitute for that piece of cake.

*Yogurt
With so many varieties of yogurt to choose from, it's right up there in the wonder food category. If you are seriously watching calories, there is a fat free/sugar free version and it is as thick and creamy as the full fat varieties. If you don't want artificial sweeteners added, it is really easy to buy the plain unflavored tubs and then add your own fruit. Problem solved. *Be sure to choose one that contains active culture however. See below for my reason.

Interesting Little Extra About Bananas
In July of 2003, a shopkeeper in the UK, found a killer scorpion while unpacking a crate of bananas and yams. Luckily he noticed the scorpion before he had a chance to sting him. This variety (flat tailed) is considered one of deadliest in the world.

Interesting Little Extra About Water
It was once thought that pregnant women should refrain from taking baths throughout their pregancy for fear of germs being transferred to the baby. Just another one of those strange myths that probably frightened a lot of women. Hot baths are another thing however. No one, pregnant or not, should take hot baths.

Interesting Little Extra About Nuts
We apparently aren't the only ones who like nuts. Apparently squirrels do as well, but not for eating... for throwing. The cast of "The Phantom Tollbooth had to endure squirrels running across the outdoor stage at the Forest Theatre at UNC, pelting them with nuts. Now that is one play I would loved to have seen!

Interesting Little Extra About Yogurt
Did you know that eating yogurt containing live culture regularly will help protect you from yeast infections? It is true, but if you happen to find yourself with this uncomfortable condition, applying the plain unflavored yogurt as a cream will bring you the same relief as medication. Been there and done that!
