What Is it About Blondes?
What Do You Think?
Cutestuff, one of our very regulars in the forum asked the simple question... Do blondes have more fun? I don't think she had any idea how popular her question would become. So I decided to do a little research of my own and I found some interesting statistics.
- It seems that being blonde has a great deal to do with a woman's sexuality. Marilyn Monroe picked this hair color for obvious reasons. Men however, choose the exact opposite. Elvis Presley chose blue-black to exaggerate his masculinity.
- Did you know that home hair coloring kits are estimated at over $200 million annually and about 40% of the women using the products are opting for lighter tresses.
- Not only are more and more women choosing to color their hair a lighter shade, the hair coloring manufacturers offer not only a few shades to choose from but over 500 different shades to choose from.
- Would you believe that ads for egg donors offer bonuses for blondes!
- Not to be outdone, sperm banks in Denmark are booming because of the demand for the country's natural blond donors.
- Remember Carol Channing? She appeared in the 1949 Broadway version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She then went on to make a career out of playing the quintessential dumb blond. "I didn't have to be bright; I wasn't expected to," Channing told Good Housekeeping in 1955. "All I had to do was be blonde."
- And Hollywood didn't stop with just one movie. They went on to make movies called "Blonde Crazy," "Blonde Fever," "Blonde Trouble," and "Blonde Venus" just to name a few. Is it any wonder that 40% of women are choosing to be blonde? And, that number is probably climbing by the day.
- Being blonde is not simply something preferable to this generation. Research tells us that Egyptian women in Africa even had wigs made so that they could be blonde too. It seems that this has been going on for quite some time.
- On a different note, Cinderella is blonde. The ugly stepsisters and the stepmother are, you guessed it... dark or red haired.
- Even Barbie has platinum hair and blue eyes. Need I say more?
Now here is what our forum readers have to say about being blonde...
"I am not sure if blondes have more fun BUT I did notice when my hair was highlighted so heavily it looked blonde that I got more attention. And I also noticed that some people seemed to believe in those 'dumb blonde jokes'...So, my hypotheses is that SOME blondes have more fun because their hair is brighter which will get noticed more in a dark area and they are already in the mood to have fun."~ PR
"My daughter was a natural, curly-haired blonde at birth. It had darkened to a mousy ash blond. when she dyed it first auburn, then three months ago jet black. It didn't wash out after twenty-four shampoos. It is growing out slowly, she's ready for her own color back. One of her friends even offered to pay for her to go back blonde. Blondes do have more fun, if my daughter is an example. Most of her friends are guys, she does Tae Kwon Do and soccer. She's very smart, pretty, and friendly to everyone. So good looks as well as blonde hair is involved here." ~ Natima
"I've seen girls get noticed, but again, the face seems to matter to the guys. I thinks personally, it doesn't matter, but I thought this topic would be fun to see what kind of response I'd get!!" ~ Hugs Laura
"My sister recently went blonde. She is dark brown-auburn, like me, and now she is golden blonde. As a blonde she also looks great, although she has dark brown eyes. About a year ago, I tried to be redhead. It looked OK since I am very pale, but it dried my hair so much that I had to return to my original color. I would like to try to be blonde once, but would it wreck my hair like red color did, or even more? Maybe blondes do have more fun because it's fun to be blonde." ~ Biljana
