There Are Ways to Look Your Best During the Busy Holiday Season

Looking good, despite the holiday season's stress is nothing to furrow your brows over. Sue Evans has more on erasing those worry lines and crow's feet.

Many people, especially women seek the help of a dermatologist right before the holidays, seeking ways to look better. One of the most popular treatments is BOTOX Cosmetic. Dr. Sue Ellen Cox, a dermatologist in private practice in South Carolina says most people are looking for ways to suppress that angry, worried look, triggered by unwanted frown lines between the brows.

Everyone wants to look and feel their best during the holidays. In fact, I see a large increase in patients during this time and one of the most popular treatments is BOTOX Cosmetic. A quick, easy and effective way to look refreshed and renewed. To get more information or find a trained and qualified physician in your area to administer this treatment, visit www.BOTOXCosmetic.com.

Dr. Cox also participates in the Skin Care Outreach Empowers Survivors or "S.C.O.R.E.S." program, offering her services pro bono, to victims of domestic violence who have suffered disfiguring injuries that could be corrected through dermatologic surgery.

Your Body May Know You're Depressed Before You Do

If you suffer from chronic aches and pains, it may be your body's way of telling you you're depressed. A new national campaign, sponsored by professional and patient advocacy groups, is now raising public awareness of the link between pain and depression. The goal is to target millions of Americans who don't get treatment because they think that depression is only associated with mood and sadness.

A survey by "Freedom From Fear," a non-profit patient advocacy group, found almost half of the respondents said physical symptoms disrupted their family life. Forty-three percent said their social lives suffered and 40 percent said their work was adversely affected. According to both psychiatrists and pain specialists, pain is frequently a symptom of depression and often times is a primary symptom that patients express to their doctors.

It's proven that depression can elevate the pain signal in the emotional center of the brain. One key factor may be an imbalance in norepinephrine and serotonin -- two neurotransmitters that regulate mood and inhibit pain. Medically restoring this balance can reduce the suffering of pain and depression.

Depression affects more than 19 million American adults each year and studies show that 80% complain to their doctors first about physical symptoms. Experts recommend that patients talk to their physician about both their mood and their painful physical symptoms.

Average Joe's Melana Picks the Not So Average Joe

December 2003 (Newstream) -- Now that reality TV has answered the question of could an Average Joe get the beautiful girl, the next question is... will the girl change the guy she picked?

Millions of people watched as handfuls of regular guys were dismissed one by one -- leaving the model boyfriend, and the Average Joe. The TV series starlet, Melana Scantlin, proved that the perfect smile could get the girl. Now that she's made her decision, picking the not-so-average Jason, this ex-Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader has more to cheer about.

(Scantlin) I picked Jason not just because he's gorgeous, but because he has a wonderful personality -- I see his potential and what we can become together. Now that we're both in the spotlight, we're working on updating his grooming routine. I'm working on things like his eyebrows, and we both tried the new Crest Whitestrips Premium which whitened our smiles in seven days. I'm also getting him to wear a different pair of jeans everyday.

Scantlin has this advice for an everyday Average Joe.

(Scantlin) Just keep smiling and let your personality shine through.

Staying Healthy During The Holidays

According to the CDC, this years' cold and flu season is expected to be unusually severe. Improper hand washing is a leading cause of infection. Researchers have found that 60 percent of people will wash their hands after using a public restroom, but only 15 percent will effectively eliminate germs. But, there is help. Dr. Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona at Tucson explains.

We've found that only one-fifth of the people actually adequately wash their hands and this is really important in the cold season because if these people have the cold they're literally going to hand it to you. And it's going to be very effectively spread when you bring your fingers to your nose, eyes or mouth actually. There is now clinical evidence out there when Zicam Cold Remedy is taken within the first twenty to four-forty eight hours of the beginning of the cold symptoms, that it can actually shorten the duration and the severity of your cold.

In addition to using clinically proven Zicam Cold Remedy oral and nasal gel products, Dr. Gerba suggests frequent hand washing under soap and water to keep infection at bay.

The... DigiThong

Just what is a "DigiThong?"

Men can always grab their cells from their belt loops when they ring, but women are often fumbling in purses, and missing calls," said Curry.

Practical and Unique Product Designed By Women for Women December 2003 (Newstream) -- DigiThong™, the innovative line of cellular phone accessories created to meet the needs of women, has announced a special Holiday Gift Pack which includes a decorative chain with a locking device, plus an interchangeable leather strap packaged in a beautiful designer bag for only $59.95.

What is a DigiThong™? Co-designed by entrepreneur Janet Curry, founder and president of DigiThong™, this unique product is a fashionable waist or hip-length strap in a wide variety of styles, and universal locking device that allows the wearer to attach most cell phones or PDAs for ease of use.

"Men can always grab their cells from their belt loops when they ring, but women are often fumbling in purses, and missing calls," said Curry. She also noticed the number of cell-phone mishaps-dropped from laps, dropped in commodes, or lost when clipped to purses. In emergencies at work, many women do not have access to their phones which are stored in their desks. The DigiThong™ allows a woman to keep her phone handy at all times. Last year, 1.3 million people had their cell phones stolen, but more (some 1.6 million) lost their cell phones, according to a Continental Research survey. If the cell phone is lost or stolen, so is valuable information.

"The DigiThong™ Signature Line features designs with crystals, rhinestones, metal studs, and much more," said Janet Curry. "Through research and interaction with our customers we learned that function and fashion go hand-in-hand and women wanted our product to compliment their personal style."

DigiThong™ can be worn with a variety of different garments providing easy access to the cell phone at a moment's notice while securely holding it. It comes in various sizes to fit any shaped person, either around the waist as a fashionable belt accessory, or around the torso like a purse. The DigiThong's™ patented, sleek universal locking device is designed to fit most phones, PDAs and two-way communications devices on the market.

DigiThong™ is available online at http://www.digithong.com, and by ordering through its clearing house, DigiThong™, Inc. at (323) 904-0232.

Make Them Glisten

If you want your teeth to look their whitest, you might try rubbing a bit of petroleum jelly across your front teeth. Apparently this practice is used by beauty contestants all the time... hoping for that big break.

How To Make Beauty Oriented Christmas Snappers

Christmas Snappers are so pretty to look at, but the contents are often a waste of money. This year I have decided to make my own. I wanted control over the size and contents... and if I do say so myself, mine make the store bought snappers pale in comparison! Now before you begin... decide on the size that you want.

Finally... Coming to Canada

While on holiday, I found a Sephora shop and fell in love with everything it had to offer! I'm so pleased to learn that they are coming to Canada in late 2004, early 2005.

Apparently, over 500 shops are planned for Canada and Toronto is first on the list. You can expect to see a Sephora coming to The Eaton Centre, Yorkdale Shopping Centre and Sherway Gardens... and it can't be soon enough for me.

Project: Christmas Dazzle

There will be nights this holiday season when other women will notice just about everything about you. You know what I'm talking about... those company Christmas parties that we attend with our significant others. I know I certainly notice things about the other women sitting around our table. Don't for a minute think that they won't notice those ragged cuticles or messy nail polish jobs... because they will!
