2003 Miss Universe is the New Face of Cover Girl
Cosmetic Companies Open Doors For Multi-cultural Women December 2003 (Newstream) -- In keeping with the beauty industry's increased efforts to represent women of every ethnicity, CoverGirl Cosmetics has taken a groundbreaking step by signing two Latina models at once for the very first time. Furthering the company's outreach to the Latina and urban markets, 2003 Miss Universe Amelia Vega and supermodel Elsa Benitez will be the newest faces of CoverGirl and will make their commercial debut with TruBlend Makeup.

Celebrating the diversity of women, the makeup will come in 15 different shades that match up to 97% of all skin tones. By signing the two Latina women, the company expands on its dedication to embracing different concepts of beauty. Current CoverGirl models include actress/model/TV personality Molly Sims and supermodel Kiara, who will both also be at the shoot; actress/producer/musician Queen Latifah and supermodels Tasha Tilberg. Past models include Christie Brinkley, Niki Taylor, Brandy, Faith Hill, Tyra Banks and Ines Rivero.

A native of the Dominican Republic, 18-year-old Amelia Vega works as a goodwill ambassador for women around the world by representing the Miss Universe Organization. She works extensively with international HIV/AIDS organizations, helping to raise awareness, funding and resources for these key organizations.

Mexican-born Elsa Benitez appeared on the cover of the 2001 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She's currently a top fashion model who has graced the cover of Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Harper's Bazaar and Marie Claire.

TruBlend Makeup will be available at mass-market retail outlets nationwide beginning in January 2004.
