Tip 1: Yes, beauty editors swear by Shu Uemura eyelash curlers. I invested in one and I can tell you it doesn't curl any better than my cheaper Maybelline version. (Last year, all the magazines were touting the 24 karat gold version which seemed like a ridiculous extravagance to me).
Tip 2: Aim your blow dryer on the eye lash curler for three seconds before applying to lashes. Touch the metal to ensure it's not too hot first.
Tip 3: Curl first THEN add mascara. If you have residual mascara, remove it first before curling, otherwise you risk having your mascara clump, or worse, having your eyelashes break.
Tip 4: For added effect, curl lashes as close to the lash line as possible, then again in the middle. (This last tip courtesy of this month's InStyle magazine). Photo of Shu Uemura's 24K gold eyelash curler, courtesy Pricegrabber.

Glad you gave a review of the Shu Uemura eyelash curler…you have saved me some money!! Will stick with my Maybelline one.
I’m a new reader to your site. Thanks for your honesty. It’s rare that someone doesn’t rave over useless extravagances like that. I’ve been curling my lashes daily for years and like you my Mabelline works as well as any other. There are other types of curlers with reasonable prices though. And might I suggest you mention to your readers that they should check the foam pad in the curler and replace it regularly to avoid lash sticking or breaking. BTW, I find that it’s not more effective to warm the curler before use and far safer not to. Please contine with honest evaluations.
and I learned from many years ago if you lose eyelashes from such careless ness and build up of mascara on your curler pads, I do not recomend curling with even the slihtest bi of mascare because wants you loose them they are gone for a long long time!
Be Careful, and don’t learn the hard way!
