  • Gloves
  • And a brush

Instructions for Dying Light and Dark Hair Red

The first thing I am going to do is mix up the red hair dye, when you mix the red hair dye you want to get a volume that is a deposit only, because you don’t want any red that will lift the hair or it will come out looking pink.

Deposit only is hair color that rest on top of the hair shaft only and does not penetrate the cuticle, allowing you to dye your hair red ensuring that it does not turn pink especially on light color hair or blondes. I will apply red hair dye to the dark hair, as a rule of thumb for brunettes, use a hair dye that is one two levels darker than your regular hair color. Fully saturate your hair so every piece is dyed, and let set for 20 minutes.

With blonde hair the only difference is you need to use the filler. The filler will protect and aid as a barrier to the light hair color from becoming pink, before applying the red hair dye. If you apply the red hair dye directly onto blonde hair it will turn pink. The filler will also help the hair dye to adhere to the blonde hair.

After you sprayed the entire head with the filler, then fully saturate the hair with the red hair dye on each hair. Red is the hardest color to stay in the hair because it is an un-natural pigment and fades the easiest, so use something color protecting and color locking, like a red shampoo and conditioner and shower only with cold water. Hot water is the worse thing for redheads and will fade the red dye.If you have gray hair and want red hair.. let the dye stay on your hair for 45 minutes. Blonde and brown hair needs about 20 minutes to set on the hair. After the set times are finished, wash with cold water and style. Now yourhave blonde hair dyed red and dark hair dyed red, all easily achieved right at home.
