There's nothing quite like a hydrating body scrub done at your favorite spa. Your skin feels smooth and moisturized—and has that healthy glow.

Can't make it to the spa? No worries. You can easily give yourself a good body scrub at home. There's no need to pay top dollar for a store-bought scrub when you can make one yourself from natural ingredients. Plus, you can even customize it!

The following recipe is great because it contains just four ingredients that you typically have in your cupboards (once you buy the capsules and the essential oils, that is) and doesn't rely on fresh ingredients like fruits, yogurt or milk. Because it doesn't contain fresh foods, it won't spoil easily. It's also best used, like most full-body scrubs, with a partner to help you get to those hard-to-reach areas, like your lower back.

Gather up your ingredients and get started! You want to make sure you are using pure sweet almond oil, such as Pure Body Naturals Sweet Almond Oil ($12). You can find the Vitamin E liquid capsules at many drugstores or you can order them online. The Sundown Vitamin E Softgels ($7) are a good choice. Here is everything you need for your body scrub:

  • 1 cup white sugar (Can use brown sugar as a substitute)
  • 1/2 cup sweet almond oil (use coconut oil as a substitute if you don't have or can't use almond)
  • 5 Vitamin E capsules
  • 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (skip this if you don't have it)

Now that you have all your ingredients, it is time to get mixing.

  1. Place sugar, almond oil and essential oil into a bowl.
  2. Pierce the Vitamin E capsules and squeeze them into the bowl.
  3. Mix well. You want a consistency that's not too runny. Add more oil if you like.
  4. Pour your body scrub into a jar with a lid or in a covered bowl.

That is it! You have a moisturizing body scrub that you can use anytime from the comfort of home.

How To Use the Sweet Almond Oil Body Scrub

Use this body scrub weekly to keep your skin in tip-top shape. Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, leaving behind a layer of fresh, rejuvenated skin. The practice can make you look younger and feel smoother. It's important to exfoliate both your face and your body year-round and, no matter your skin type, in winter it's even more important. Those with sensitive complexions, however, should exfoliate less often.

Follow these instructions to get spa-like results at home.

Step 1: Start in the shower and rinse your body so your skin is wet.

Step 2: Starting at your neck, work the scrub into skin by massaging in a circular motion. You can wear exfoliating gloves when you apply this scrub, but don't worry if you don't have any, your hands will do!

Step 3: Be sure to massage body scrub into your arms, hands, legs, torso and buttocks. If you can reach your upper and lower back, do so, otherwise ask your partner to help you out. You can also get an exfoliating towel at health food stores or on Amazon and use it by pulling it back and forth across your back.

Step 4: Pay special attention to any super dry areas, such as the backs of your arms, your elbows and your buttocks.

Step 5: Once your body is completely exfoliated, rinse in warm water.

Step 6: Apply moisturizer to cleansed, scrubbed skin.
