"Bronde" hair is that perfect shade between blonde and brunette. Bronde hair color was first made popular back in 2007 by supermodel Gisele Bundchen (pictured here). Many natural brunette celebrities have gone the "bronde" route and you'll see the best of the bunch in this photo gallery.
So how to get it? The key to the perfect shade of bronde is to start with a light brown or dark blonde base color and then lighten sections of hair using the balayage method. Balayage is basically hair painting, and allows the colorist to add color exactly where he/she wants it. With bronde, the ideal is to paint color onto the top layers of hair. The effect is meant to be to be like a child's hair at the end of summer -- bleached by the sun.
Here are some tips:
- There are various bronde techniques, including painting chunks of hair all around the head. Some colorists paint only the sections along the face to help brighten the face and make eyes pop.
- The key to bronde is to add dimension and depth your hair color, and the way to that is to add several shades of color. To get perfect, sun-kissed color, your stylist should use at least 2 different color lifting creams.
Bronde hair takes a great stylist to pull off. Just make sure you don't have too much of a contrast between the roots and the highlighted ends or you'll end up looking as if you fried your hair via the bottle and are trying to grow it out.
