You won't achieve your desired hairstyle without hair products, according to Antonio Gonzales, former stylist at Eva Scrivo salon in New York City.
"Water is not enough!" says Antonio. "The hair needs to be protected."
To properly apply a styling spray, cream or gel, saturate hair with product, then comb product through hair so it is evenly distributed. You want the product to coat each strand rather than just sit on top of it, according to Eva Scrivo in Oprah Magazine.
Other stylist suggest spritzing hair with product, or applying a foam or gel and then massaging the product into hair. This ensure the hair really gets coated.
Once you've massaged hair or simply applied the product, use a wide-toothed comb or boar's hair brush to comb hair. Never use plastic or metal brushes, says Antonio.
