Q. What are the options for pre-mature gray hair?

A.

I recently received an e-mail from a 26 year old woman who was worried about the gray hair that started to grow while she was still in highschool. She wondered what she could do about it.

*First of all, you mentioned that gray hair isn't something that runs in your family. I would give this a lot of thought because generally, this is the reason why one would suddenly start noticing an abundance of gray hair.

If you can truly rule that out, I would make an appointment with the doctor just to make sure that there are no medical reasons for the condition. Diabetes, pernicious anemia and thyroid problems have all been linked to pre-mature graying.

So what can you do about the gray? Cover it plain and simple and that is if you really want to. I have seen some gorgeous shades of gray and there are even hair color kits to enhanse the shades. I would also recommend purchasing colors that will gradually wear off. That means no roots to contend with.
