Help! My Foundation Settles Into My Fine Lines

How to plump up skin so foundation doesn't settle into lines or pores

When you have large pores or fine lines and wrinkles, the last thing you want is for your foundation to settle into them. You also don't want your foundation to sit atop your flaky skin. Here, I'll show you exactly how to get perfect foundation application.

The secret to keeping your foundation from settling into fine lines or large pores is to apply a foundation primer BEFORE you apply foundation. You can read more about foundation primers in What Is a Foundation Primer? And Do I Need It?

The short answer is "yes." Yes, you need foundation primer. It works much like paint primer does -- it fills in your cracks and holes before the top coat goes on. It also allows the top coat to be applied more smoothly.

If you don't want to invest in a primer (I list the best ones here), then moisturizer will also work.

Once your skin is primed, you need to apply the right foundation. There are so many formulations today, it can be mind-boggling, but I recommend using a liquid foundation if you have dry skin and an oil-free foundation or tinted moisturizer if you have oily skin.

Get the full scoop in How To Pick the Perfect Foundation Makeup.

Once you have the primer and the right foundation, you should be good to go. Make sure to exfoliate weekly to keep your skin flake- and blackhead-free and if you have dry skin, keep your skin moisturized, especially in drying winter weather.
