Here are my tips for styling curly hair:
Yes, airdrying is best. But because you have curly hair, you likely dont have to wash it much. Some women with curly hair NEVER use shampoo and only cleanse with conditioner and then only once a week or less. I would try to go as long as possible between washings.
If you do dry hair, use an attachment. You need one of the big fat attachments made for curly hair.
Blow dry hair from below, up into curls, on a low setting.
Get layers cut into your hair to lessen some of the heaviness. This will make it more manageable and cuter. A good stylist will know how to cut your hair when its dry.
Use hair conditioner generously.
Once hair is dry, you can flat-iron it or curl it around a curling iron with a big barrel. My friend does this and her hair is GORGEOUS. First she dries her hair as straight as possible with a paddle brush, then when its dry she wraps the hair in different directions around the barrel.
Consider washing your hair at night a couple hours before bedtime so it has time to dry.
I have not heard about Herbal Essence's product line. But I'll do my research and get back to you.
