Meeting the Managing Director
Any notion that this was no place for a downtown girl was thrown out the window the minute I met Robin Boucher Benet, the salon's managing director and quite possibly the most charming woman north of 34th Street. Benet greeted me no fewer than three times over the course of my visit, once with her own hair glistening with product when she underwent her own color treatment later that day. Each time we talked effusively and warmly and when she took her leave whoever had been working on my hair at the moment immediately commented on what a wonderful director Benet is, how concerned she is for the staff's well-being. A less pretentious woman you won't meet. A few foils into my visit and already this downtown girl was feeling right at home uptown.
Getting My Hair Cut
After the color, I was whisked off to another part of the salon to get my hair cut by a man so gorgeous I couldn't stop staring at him in the mirror. Between stories about him doing Jennifer Lopez's sister's hair and his upbringing in a South American country, we talked about my love of
bangs. The haircut didn't take long but the blowout seemed to take hours. But I was left with long layers (no bangs yet) and a gorgeous color. It was then I realized no woman leaves John Barrett without a perfect blowout. It's like wearing a brand on your sweatshirt.
