Reese Witherspoon is the actress I think of first when I think of a heart-shaped face and her hair always looks great (see my photo gallery of Reese Witherspoon Hair: Her Most Iconic Looks).
She's sported shoulder-length bobs, long waves, and even shorter hair, but one thing she's rarely without is side-swept bangs. Why? Perhaps because of her face shape. Heart-shaped faces are wider up top, which can look a bit top heavy, according to LA hairstylist Andy LeCompte in InStyle magazine. You can balance out the face with long, sideswept bangs which "draw attention down and towards the eyes," says LeCompte. He says the shortest pieces should hit your face at the arch of your brow. The longest pieces should hit the outer corners of eyes. Learn more about bangs in Best Bangs by Face Shape.
Don't let your stylist cut your bangs too short. I find it's best to cut bangs when dry because they tend to shrink when they dry.
