The Beauty Diary

Dear Readers,
This week, I take you with me to Willowdale, Ontario Canada. I spent the day sipping latte, people watching, checking out new probucts and meeting interesting people. As I can't take all of you with me, I thought that this might be the next best way. Come along and have fun. I certainly did...

  Spotlight on Shopping

My first stop was at an interesting little shop called "Crabtree and Evelyn" There were so many interesting items, I hardly knew where to start, in fact, I could have browsed all day. The displays in the store are artfully arranged and I found myself taking a tour of the space at least twice, trying to choose what products I would leave the store with. Maria Thomas, the store's manager, was extremely helpful and took time to explain about the hair care line that the store carried and offered three generous samples to try.

So what did I leave the store with?? Two bars of soap that I can't wait to try. I love the scent of fresh roses and lily of the valley and these two soaps were as close to the scent of fresh flowers as you can possibly get. And, the Rosewater soap also contains cold cream. Does this sound like luxury to you??

Then, it was on to "The Body Shop" where I spotted a line of products for men. Within a seconds, a very nice young man by the name of Yasser Ahmed was at my side, offering help. He quickly pointed out that he was a new employee of the store, but that he would do his best to help me.

The new line called "Mechanics for Men" offers several products to choosed from. I picked out three that looked interesting to me and Yasser was extremely helpful in explaining them to me. There is a "Deep Cleaning Body Wash" (one of Ahmed's favorites), a Pomice Stone Soap and a Shaving Oil that you apply BEFORE shaving. They looked like great stocking stuffers to me. Oh, and I almost forgot... there is a body bronzer for guys. So, if you want to look like you have a great tan... check out this product INSTEAD of going ruining your skin.

Enchante
This was the next shop I visited. It was a tiny shop but it was wall to wall perfumes! I asked sales clerk Lorabelle, for the hottest scents of the summer and she pointed me to "Romance" by Ralph Lauren, "J'Adore" by Christian Dior, and "Allure" by Chanel. So, if you are looking for a new scent, be sure to check out these great scents.

Fruits and Passions
The scent alone will lure you into this interesting little shop, not to mention the feast of colors that will dazzle you. Caujoe Annamunthodo took me on a little tour of the shop and explained the product line in great detail. You couldn't ask for a more knowledgeable manager!

This Canadian company has been around since 1992 and has been delivering quality bath products that you are going to love. I could go on and on about all the great products that they have, but I'm going to send you to their website instead. BUT, before I send you off, I want you to remember these words "Orange-Cantaloupe! That's just one scent that they offer and you are sure to fall in love with it!

  Hit of the Week
Goes to a young Asian woman that I spotted in Fairview Mall. She had long gorgeous black hair with scarlet (not red) streaks in her hair. Looked fabulous. While this style is not going to work for all of us, I still have to choose her as hit of the week. It really worked with her coloring!!

  Miss of the Week

The miss of the week, goes to a 50ish year old woman who was probably dark haired in her youth and was trying to duplicate the same color as she aged. Didn't work. It was too evident that the color came from a bottle and her hair cut was too severe for her features. She should have opted for a dark brown instead of the black and she needed a softer hair style.
**Remember as we age, we need to go lighter with our hair color. In most cases, black simply doesn't work!

  Fashion Hit of the Week

I spotted a nice looking man sitting next to me in a coffee shop here in Willowdale and I was impressed. I discreetly took notes for you. He had nicely cut hair, not to short and not too long, a watch and a small chain around his neck. Nothing was over done and he gets full points for STYLE! Here is what he was wearing. I wish that I could have taken a photo but scribbling in a notebook is the next best thing ;)

  • tan colored short sleeved sweater
  • Tan colored trousers with a black belt.
  • dark brown socks
  • black shoes (and they were polished)

      Fashion Miss of the Week

This one goes to a woman unfortunately...
She was wearing gray pants, a yellow top and a purple windbreaker. Need I say more?

Hope you enjoyed reading my beauty diary. It might not always be complimentary, but it's honest and it will give you an idea of what I see on the streets and in the shopping malls around the world. My next diary entry will be coming to you from England!
    spb :)
