Put That On My Face???
Have you ever cleaned your brushes? By now I think that everyone realizes that you cannot continue to use the same brush and not bother cleaning it. Can you imagine the germs that would collect as it picks up oil from the surface of your skin as you apply blush. Try gently separating the brush bristles and take a look at the tiny globules of color. That is oil and blush mixed. Pretty yukky don't you think! I read recently that soiled brushes were traced to the acne flare ups so, if you have tried everything to rid yourself of blemishes with no results, it could be your brushes to blame.
How do you properly clean them? -use a very mild shampoo and gently work it into a lather. Rinse carefully and then sit on the edge of a counter to dry. This should take about 24 hours so you can do it just before you go to bed. Don't get the handles wet. They are usually made of wood and water can damage the bristles. What are the most common brushes?
- powder brush
- eyeliner brush
- eye shader
- eyelash separator
- blush brush
- lip brush
- Leave them soaking in water. It will damage the wood of the handle.
- I own 8 make up brushes of all shapes and sizes that are for different applications and I clean them with shampoo
and let them air dry.
Susan - Deirdre messaged me saying that she gets away with using just one.
- Here is what Lisa had to say about the brushes in her life...
I have several dozen brushes, for blushes, finishing powder, bronzers, eye make up lipstick. I wash my brushes once a week in a gentle face cleanser, to keep the suppleness of the hairs and the brushes soft. I air dry them and keep them in a clean cosmetic bag. this keeps bacteria problems down and the brushes stay fresher and like new. Brushes do aid is a applying cosmetics and blending colors for a natural look, they don't tug on the skin, like fingers or sponges. - And Gail had this to say...
I use two brushes. One for blush and the other for my loose powder. I try to clean them often and usually do so with a mild facial cleanser and let air dry. - Christie's Comment: Lets see.... I own about 6, and I really don't do anything special to take care of them.
- I have make-up brushes for my eye shadows and blushers and one larger one to brush softly all over my face and neck once all of my make-up is on. I think this really smoothes out any imperfections and makes it all look more natural and put together. I don't do anything "special" to take care of them; I keep them clean and once they start to wear down or out (or in the case of the eye shadow brushes, I throw them away once they have a lot of color on them and buy new ones).
