How Old Were You?
Lets do a little reminiscing

I was doing a little reminiscing this week and thought that it would make an entertaining question for the forum. I asked the ladies how old they were when they bought their first tube of lipstick and I asked the guys, how old they were when they picked out their first bottle of cologne. Not one guy answered, (I wonder why) but lots of ladies had great stories to share.

  • Oh geez! My first tube of lipstick? I have no clue... maybe like when I was 10 or 12? Hmmm, I know I was probably playing with my mom or grandma's lippies when I was like 8 or something... lol.

  • I didn't actually buy my first tube. I was at girl's camp, and every year we'd draw names and be somebody's "secret sister". Every day you'd give that person little gifts or a note or something. Well when I was 13 or so, MY secret sister gave me a matching bottle of nail polish & a tube of lipstick. My mom had always let me wear nail polish whenever I wanted to, as long as it was clear or one of those pale pink iridescent sheer kind (yes I am a child of the 80s!). But this lipstick was a deep mauve, and so was the nail polish. I felt so grown up. I loved it. =)

  • I was 18 because my mom wouldn't let me wear it until I graduated from high school.

  • It was Tangee orange from Woolworth's, that's all I remember, but that ought to give you some idea... unless you are under 30 :)

  • I was 12 or 13 and it was a lipstick from a cheap department store. But I remember the name of the color! It was Buzz Buzz Pink!!

  • I was 12, in 7th grade, I think. It was purple. A few months later I bought a tube of red. Everyone at school bugged me because the fashionable color in that area at that time was brown.

  • Mom would allow me to wear the Bonne Bell flavored Lip Smackers from the time I could apply it by myself (I still love those darn Lip Smackers to this day--and I'm 35 now!) When I was in middle school she used to save me a little bit left from her current tube of lipstick. She used Revlon lipstick: I think the color was called Pink Foil, but I could be mistaken. I didn't actually buy lipstick until I was 15 and Mom monitored my color choices for a year or so. She didn't want me wearing 'loud' colors, only pinks or beiges. I still don't usually wear bright colors, even though I get compliments when I do. Mom really influenced my makeup color choices! And she wears her peachy-pink lipstick almost everyday...

  • I've been wearing lipstick since forever. But I didn't start buying my own lipsticks until the 6th grade. It was back in 96/97, and the hottest color was brown. I thought that I looked so great, but now that I look back, I wanna crawl and hide under the cover! :o)

  • I was 9. Never got to wear it though lol. Mom said it was too bright and threw it away. I think it was like fuchsia... or some similar color.

  • I was 11 years old (in 6th grade) and I remember my first lipstick a green mood stick. You know the one that change color on your lip and last for hours. It was my mom's and she gave it to me cause she taught it looked better on me than on her. I couldn't believe she was allowing me to wear this darker shade of color. It looked like the color of berry on my lips, but with my dark Hispanic features I guess I could have gotten away with it. I loved it! 15 years later I still buy my lipstick to resemble the same color it look on my lip.

  • It might not be my first tube of lipstick, but the most memorable tube was one that I bought for a Paul Revere and the Raiders concert. I had gone to stay with my grandparents (concert was in their town) and just HAD to look good! So, my lipstick for the night was white (which was popular at the time) but I can still remember my grandmother asking me if I was coming down with something. I came VERY close to missing that concert, thanks to that white lipstick! Shelly
