| Summer Toes Coming Up | |
Summer means sandals and bare feet... and they had better look good. Nothing looks worse, in my opinion, than dried out feet. All those white lines shout to the world that you haven't bothered to take care of them. Luckily, you can bring your feet back to scratch pretty quickly, but there are a few things you need to know.
Oksana Davidovich, a chiropodist at the Davisville Foot Clinic in Toronto, sees all kinds of feet during the summer months and one of the biggest problem is foot fungus. So, what causes it? Increased heat and perspiration that builds up between the toes. Most people sprinkle powder between their toes, believing that this will take care of the moisture, but apparently this isn't the case. In fact, it makes the problem worse. Instead of powder, she suggests rubbing alcohol.
It is very common to walk around public pools with your feet bare, but did you know that this is a great way to pick up Plantar's warts. Instead, slip your feet into a pair of thongs and protect your feet for the summer.
Not only do they hurt, they aren't very pretty to look at, especially in sandals. But there are a few things you can do...
Use a pumice stone and slough off that dead skin.
Once that has been accomplished, slather on a rich moisturizing cream and then slip into a pair of socks. Heels soak up the moisture and cracks heal.
Do you spend half as much time on the cuticles around your toenails? If you are planning on wearing sandals, they are going to be as noticeable as those around your fingernails. To soften up tough cuticles that have been ignored, start with a little cuticle oil and let it soak in. A few days of this pampering and your cuticles will be ready for some serious attention.
Sunblock belongs on your feet too, but with a little help from your favorite self tanner, your feet can be as brown as you want them to be. And to make them look even better, try painting your toes with a coral polish. Looks amazing with a "tan"!
Yes, your feet can still smell... even in sandals. Here are a few things that you can do to avoid this problem.
-Wash your feet every day.
-Avoid spicy food. This could be the cause!
-Drink lots of icy water. Not only will it help with the odor, it helps burn calories at the same time.
-Dust feet with powder... just not between the toes.
Stock up on nail polish remover and use it! There is nothing worse than toenails that have out-grown their polish. It looks as if the polish was applied two months ago and and then simply forgotten. Looks terrible. Trust me, people notice.
