| A Visit To The Dentist | |
Okay, for my generation, going to the dentist is something that we simply don't look forward to. To be blunt, I absolutely hate going. Just knowing that I have a check up looming in the near future is enough to spoil my days for weeks on end. But unfortunately, going to the dentist is something you have to do if you want to keep your teeth. And having them pulled out and false ones put in, is something I would rather not think about.
I have given a lot of thought to my fears of dentists and I think that it goes back to when we were children. There was no health plans like there are now, and you didn't go unless you had a toothache that kept you awake at nights. That usually meant that the tooth was too far gone to save and extraction was your only choice. My first visit occurred when I was twelve years old... far too late by today's standards. And by that time, I had a mouth full of cavities not to mention a few too many teeth to begin with. Fillings, a couple of extractions and a brand new set of braces were what I had to contend with during by first year of visits. No wonder I am scared to death of dentists!
But, I have come up with a few strategies to make going to the dentist a little easier. If they can work for me, they can work with anyone!
- Visit the dentist every six months. That will give you a chance to get used to the
surroundings... smell and all! I have purposely chosen May so that the summer is free and
clear, and December when my thoughts are full of Christmas activities!
- Tell your hygenist and your dentist about your fears. They will be very sympathetic and
they will work to make your visit as pleasant as possible. I for one hate having my teeth
cleaned. The feeling of having my teeth scraped sets my hair on end, so I told this to the
hygenist. She suggested doing the polishing first. I don't know why, but it makes the rest
of the cleaning much easier.
- Ask questions. My hygenist has provided me with several tools that I can use myself to
clean my teeth. If it gets me out of the office faster, I'm all for it.
- Fill your thoughts with things other than your appointment. I read once that you can't
think about two things at one time and it's true. My last appointment coincided with my
training for the Mining Company and I was so busy that I simply didn't have the time to think
about it! Amazing! I didn't waste hours and hours worrying because I was too busy
thinking about my new position as your new guide!
- Lastly, have faith in your dentist. If he doesn't suit you, find someone else. Same goes
for your hygenist. You are paying these people afterall!
To end, I just want to say that dentistry has come along way from what I remember as a kid! The drills are faster, the needles are so fine that they are virtually painless and if I am completely honest with you, I really don't know why I have this fear anymore.
All I can think of is that it must be conditioning. Going to the dentist is easier than ever before and a beautiful smile is something we don't want to lose! And if you need a little more incentive, do what I do. After it's all over... go shopping!

*Product Review
This week I have decided to check out mascaras! I decided to do a little asking around and one name was mentioned over and over again! I decided that I would give it a try!
Let's talk a little about the container! It's a nice size and easy to hold in your hand. No accidently dropping this tube! And the product I found to be excellent! It goes on easily and in seconds your lashes are LONGER and THICKER! And no spiky bits either. Smooth and continuous! But the test that I was really interested in was whether it would melt and leave little smudges of black on my brow bone! It didn't happen! This is one great mascara and it doesn't cost a lot either! The name is 2000 Calorie Mascara by Max Factor! A really good buy ladies!
