Getting Ready For The Prom
Prom Night 2001... Great Skin For That Special Night

This is going to be one of the biggest nights of your life and things have to be perfect. So for that reason alone, you can't devote too much time to the planning of this special night. This week's article is the second of several that will help get you ready for your prom. We will be covering everything... from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. So let's get started. This week we will start with one of the most important features... your skin.

I am going to show you how to properly "cleanse your face" and next week we are going to attack your diet. Yes, it does matter to your skin! I know that you have probably read that it doesn't, but I have seen otherwise, and I will be offering some suggestions in the next article.

So lets get started. Here's what I want you to do...

  • Invest in a headband or a covered elastic band so that you can pull your hair out of the way as you cleanse.
  • Now that your hair is completely out of the way, remove your eye makeup. There are lots of gentle removers on the market that do an excellent job.
  • Choose a cleanser formulation that is right for your skin type.
  • Splash your face with warm water.
  • Squeeze a small amount of cleanser into your hand and then work it into a lather with the help of a little additional water.
  • Massage the lather into every inch of your face and don't forget the neck.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
  • Apply a little toner or Witch Hazel to a cotton ball and gently draw the saturated cotton over your skin.
  • Follow by a light moisturizer unless your skin is very oily.
  • Ta Da... you are done.

      Additional Tips

Why a headband? If you want to do a thorough job, you need to see your skin and that means the hairline as well. Oil and makeup along the hairline means blemishes!

Why a special product to remove makeup? It is very simple... eye makeup removers are formulated to dissolve shadows and mascara, whereas other cleansers are not... to the same degree.

Won't Mom's cleanser work? After all, it's free. Sorry but no, it won't work. Your skin is probably nothing like your mother's. It can't hurt to check though. If she has dry skin and so do you, you are in luck. But if you have oily skin and Mom is fighting dry skin, her cleanser is not going to work for you.

Cleanse the neck every night and you will thank me when you are 40. Research shows that it is one of the most ignored parts of the body.

Using toner will show you just how well you rinsed your face of cleanser and dirt. And, here is an important point. It will also show you just how effective your cleanser really is. If lots of makeup is on the cotton, just how well is your cleanser working?

Stress can also activate your sebaceous glands into producing more oil. There is a long scientific explanation for this but in a nutshell, if something stresses you out, an overabundance of oil is often the result. The oil then has to find a way to leave the body and that is via the pores.

Acne-related bacteria is also an issue worth thinking about. Be sure to wash white face clothes and pillow cases with a good detergent accompanied by a bleach additive to control the growth.
