Help, I Bought The Wrong Color
What You Need To Know

Think back over the last few years to all the makeup that you have purchased. Chances are that a lot of mistakes were made. I know that I have purchased several lipsticks that were the wrong shade, foundation that was the too light or too dark for me, nail polish that didn't suit the color of my skin. The list goes on and on.

But all is not lost. I learned a few tricks that can work for you too and Elke is back to offer even more advice. You will find a link to her article below. But before we begin tossing makeup that we think is hopeless, lets play around with it a little. You might be surprised at what you learn.

 Saving Nasty Cosmetic Shades

  • Any shade of nail polish can be improved upon. A neighbor painted her nails with one coat of white polish and a coat of yellow. The resulting shade was awesome. I would never have known that there were two coats. It was almost a "golden white".
  • Lipsticks can also be improved upon. I purchased a lipstick compact from Avon a few years ago containing a yellow, a white, a black and blue "lipstick". It was amazing at how one lipstick shade could be changed with just a touch of one of these colors. I don't know if Avon is still offering this compact, but if you purchased 4 tubes of lipstick in the above colors, you could accomplish the same thing. One color you don't like now has all kinds of possibilities.
  • If you find yourself with a shade of foundation you don't like, simply purchase another shade to mix with it. This is particularly handy when the seasons change and the color of your skin with it. And now you can learn some tips from a makeup artist. She knows more about this topic than you can imagine!

     The Readers Say

I always pick the wrong color of lipstick and it drives me crazy. It looks great in the store and then terrible when I try it on.

I tried a black brown mascara and it did nothing for me. Now I brush off the residue and use it on my brows. I really needed black for my lashes.
    Sally P.

I make my biggest mistakes with nail polish. It never occurred to me that a color could react to the color of my skin.
    Leanne Dennison

I learned a trick to pass along. I now keep a bottle of silvery gray nail polish to go over different colors. Looks fabulous on just about every color that I have tried.

I don't really care anymore because I have gotten into the habit of mixing colors. It's great fun.
