Are You Protected?
Two months before you leave for your ski holiday, begin exercising your muscles. And don't forget your arms. They will need
strengthening too.
Your Ski Holiday Beauty Kit
-Good shampoo and conditioner.
-Your favorite bubble bath. Trust me, you will want to relax in a nice warm tub, after a day on the slopes.
-Medication including aspirin, bandages for sore feet, upset tummy tablets.
-Emery boards.
-Skin care products.
-Makeup for evenings around the fire.
Never ski using ordinary sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is very thin and needs all the protection you can give it.
Wear proper sunglasses that offer UVA and UVB protection. You might also want to apply an SPF15 lip salve to the eye area
to bump up protection.
Protect your skin with a sunscreen with an SPF25 or more, and a maximum 4 star UVA protector. Remember that the UVA rays are the
ones that age you. An easy way to remember which is which is that the "A" in UVA stands for aging and the "B" in UVB stands for
burning.
Don't take a bottle of sun block (regardless of the size) with you onto the slopes. Chances are, if you take a tumble... you will fall
on it and it's going to
hurt. Take as small a tube as you can find and apply it often.
Wear as little makeup as possible while on the slopes. Perhaps a tinted moisturizer with SPF protection, if you need a touch
of color. If you must use a foundation, keep it light over a good layer of sun block. And no, using a foundation that includes an
SPF coverage, is not enough. To be worthwhile, you would have to wear a thick layer and we don't want that!
If your hair is short, you have a lot less to worry about than those with long hair. As nice as long hair looks as you are
breezing down the hills, the cold and wind will play havoc with it. Frizziness can be controlled with a little hair serum, but if
the problem is worse than that, get yourself a funky hat.
Dress for the weather!!! On a ski trip to Whistler, British Columbia, I saw people wandering around the village without hats,
gloves and coats unzipped, and it was not a nice day by any stretch of the imagination. It was bitterly cold and their hands and
faces told you as much. Believe it or not... you can look trendy AND warm.
