How To Make Small Talk

Your dress is gorgeous, your makeup and hair perfect, but for some reason, you can't think of a thing to say. I'm starting this how-to off with some sources of information and then places where you might put your small talk into practice.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: n/a

Here's How:

1.   Watch the news on tv each night. That should give you an unlimited source of topics.

2.   Subscribe to local newspapers. Weekends are a great time to brush up on what's happening all around you.

3.   Coffee shops are great places to strike up a conversation. Take advantage of the casual atmosphere.

4.   What about the person sitting next to you on the bus. You already have something in common!

5.   Get out of the house. Go for a walk and talk to everyone you see. Commenting on their gardens is a good opening for conversation.

6.   Join a club. This give you plenty of opportunity to chat with new people.

7.   Take a class. This will provide you with a new hobby to talk about and new faces as well.

8.   If you find yourself suddenly tongue-tied, fall back on this suggestion. It works every time! Ask the person beside you something about themselves. They will be so surprised at the opportunity, you probably won't have to say a word!

Tips:

  1. Practise, practise, practise!

What You Need:

  • people... that's it!
