Each season brings about new colors and new makeup techniques. So what does Summer of 2002 have in store for us? I asked makeup artist Elke Von Freudenberg what we could expect to see. Here's what she had to say.
There's a shift in summer makeup this season, with new textures and applications. Gone is the glowy, dewy skin and glossy eyes. You'll still see if now and then, but there's a change coming.
What's Out:

What's HOT:
Perfect Looking Skin - As in a slight matte texture with every imperfection covered. You'll see more coverage in your tinted moisturizers with silicone added ingredients to your foundations to stand up to heat and humidity. A new product on the market that is getting rave reviews is the new "SkinTones' from Sebastian/Trucco. In nine shades, this medium coverage with spf 15 gives an incredibly long lasting wear with an invisible feel.
Watercolored Eyes - Along with the ever present dark smokey eye for summer, don't feel you have to go dark and dramatic all season long. Don't forget the softly colored pastels. Soft pinks, blues, greens and lilacs are on the palette with a soft sheer water-color effect. You've seen it for a few years, but it hit the big time this season. Apply your sheers around your whole eye, both under lashes and on the eyelid. Complete with a coat of mascara, both top and bottom to finish the look.
Shimmering Cheeks - Less color, more glow. You'll see less and less color on the apples of cheeks this summer, because all the attention is going to smokey eyes this season. So your cheeks don't feel left out, apply a soft white, cream or pink shimmer to the apples of the cheeks, or onto the tops of the cheekbones. Try shimmer sticks, or a favorite shimmer eyeshadow to start with. A beautiful glow that gives a nice balance to the face.
