What You Should Know About Stress and Wrinkles

We have all heard that stress is not good for you, but does it play a part in beauty? You bet it does. While we can go out and buy creams to help lessen the lines that we see on our faces as we age, it was stress that put a lot of them there! This week, I am going to show you just how important it is to learn how to control the stress in your life. Not only will you feel a lot better, you will successfully be able to lie about your age.

Here are six things that I want you to do, or at least think about over the next week. Believe me, your face will thank you... and it doesn't hurt a bit!

• Everyone has days when they feel absolutely miserable. Wouldn't your day turn around if someone complimented you when you were least expecting it? Today, compliment someone when THEY least expect it. It just might make their day!

• Do you remember how much you use to listen to music? If you were anything like me, you devoted a huge amount of time to this simple pleasure. I want you to bring some of that enjoyment back into your life. Replace those old records with new audio tapes or cds and then buy yourself a walkman/cd player. Spend a half hour every day, walking around your neighborhood listening to those old hits. Have you noticed that I am doing my best to get you moving!

• I spent an hour outside this morning just listening to the birds and the sound of the rain falling on the roof. What a great way to start your day... totally relaxed and ready to work. If you are feeling a little stressed, this is a good way to shake it.

• "Time is a gift that most of us take for granted. We get so caught up in the business our daily lives that we rarely stop and take a serious look at how we're spending this gift." Cheryl Richardson, (Life Makeovers).

This is so true. I have a garden full of gorgeous roses, but it wasn't until I read this quote that I took a book out into the backyard and spent a little time enjoying my garden. Now I spend a little time out there everyday.  It is amazing how it will perk up your mood and send you back to work with a renewed sense of well-being.

• When was the last time you laughed? Children laugh all day long. If you don't believe me, visit a park and claim a bench next to a play area. There are nonstop smiles and giggles. For some reason, we forget how to play as we get older and we really need to get that back into our life.

So is there any real proof that stress can actually age you. Actually, yes there is. Dr. George Murphy, Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania has found that tension can affect cells located beneath the skin surface resulting in a decrease in elasticity and deeper facial lines. "After all, if stress can bring forth unwanted changes such as premature graying of hair, wouldn't it promote wrinkles?" asks Dr. Murphy.
