This Shampoo or That One?
I received an email from a gentleman a few weeks ago and he wanted me to recommend a good shampoo... for men. Apparently, he thought that he shouldn't be using shampoos formulated for women. Just in case you have been thinking the same thing... here is my reply.First of all, don't get lured in to those brands that are "formulated" just for men. The only difference is that they use a difference fragrance that they are hoping will appeal to you.
What you need to determine is what your hair needs. Is it oily or dry? Perhaps somewhere in between? Once you determine that, go to the drug store and sample some of the trial sizes. There are so many to choose from and some are going to work for you, but be prepared to sample some that don't. You will need to do a little testing. When you find a formulation that works, then you can buy a full size bottle.
Personally, my entire family uses Dove Shampoo and everyone seems to like it. My husband did say that he has to vary his choice of shampoos after a few bottles for the best results.
You might want to use a conditioner as well if your hair seems dry. My husband doesn't bother, but I couldn't imagine not using one.
Common Mistakes
One of the most common mistakes made by both the sexes is that we don't rinse long enough and that means that there is still soap in your hair. Try counting to 30 before you stop rinsing.
Another mistake you should be aware of is simply using too much shampoo. For short hair, try an amount that is roughly the size of a nickel. That should be plenty.
And lastly, get out of the habit of rubbing your hair with a bath towel to soak up the excess water. Instead, blot the hair gently with the towel. It will give the same results without catching on the hair and causing damage or possibly pulling it out.
