Quick Tip
Blow dry hair according to instructions. (If you need help with blow-drying, I have included a link under "Related Resources" to the right of this article that offers the directions you will need.Things You Need:
-a blow dryer that offers between 1200 and 1500 watts and is light enough to hold easily
-sectioning clips
-straightening balm if hair has curl
-heat protecting balm if straightener is not used (Revlon has a good one)
-hairspray that will hold without leaving hair crunchy
-large round brush
-large spring clip
-long bobby pins
-large barrelled curling iron
Step-by-Step Instructions
For this style, I will jump right into the particulars after the blow-drying has been completed.
1. Section hair at crown, pulling 3/4 of it on top of your head. Secure with a large spring clip. We will come back to that later.
2. About 1/4 of your hair should now be falling over your shoulders. Adjust if necessary.
3. Create part. For this style, a side part is used.
4. Randomly choose sections of the free-falling hair and wrap small amounts around the curling iron. Very loose curl is what you are looking for.
5. Remove clip from hair, but do not let go. You are going to twist it into a very loose chignon. Pin in place mist with your favorite hairspray.
Additional Tips
*Maybe It's You
If you aren't happy with the look of your style after applying hairspray, you might even want to try this. I saw my hair stylist do it and there was absolutely no hard film. He sprayed the air and then waved his hand around so that only a fine mist settled on my hair. It makes sense when you think about it. One shot from the sprayer could hit one area making that seem brittle. And if you are anything like me, you spray several spots so that you cover all of your hair. Big mistake.
*Do It Right
If you do it correctly, you can blow-dry your hair every day. It is a good idea however, to moisturize your hair on a regular basis and deep condition once a month. The trick is to hold the dryer at least two inches from your hair as you dry and keep the dryer moving.
*Weak Hair
Your hair is most vulnerable when it is wet so it is especially important to be gentle during this time. That means no brushing allowed. Detangle with a wide tooth comb or your fingers.
