Q. When should facial powder be replaced?

A.

Most cosmetics will last indefinitely if they haven't been opened. However, the minute they are exposed to air, the minutes begin ticking. For powder, the rule of thumb is about two years. You might keep in mind that any change in consistancy, smell or something that doesn't seem quite right, is a good time to replace it.

Powder in a compact is exposed to puffs that are in turn in regular contact with oil from the skin. To keep the powder as fresh as possible, do not store the puff in the compact. If the compact is carried in the purse and you obviously need the puff, I would suggest washing the puff on a weekly basis, depending of course on how often you use the compact for touch-ups.

Loose powder is often packaged in a shake style container. This is my favorite as it keeps the powder away from contamination until it is ready to use.
