How To Enjoy the Holiday Season
Remember how excited you use to get? Just knowing that Santa was going to visit gave you goosebumps. As I remember it, all of December was about as magical as it could get. Get ready to do a little time traveling. You are going to enjoy this holiday season with no stress attached.Difficulty: N/A
Time Required: N/A
Here's How:
1. Put the tree up in early December and spend a little time at night simply gazing at the lights. Okay, squint your eyes a little so that the lights blur. That's when the magic starts. ;)
2. Read something Christmasy. Okay, just take 20 minutes each day and read something. This is a struggle for me as I feel guilty when I know I should be working. But I loved to read as a kid. And we are time traveling!
3. Go for a walk and enjoy the decorations. My daughter and I go for an afternoon walk around the block and then come home for a mug of LOW CAL hot chocolate. My waistline doesn't realize that I'm a kid again.
4. Listen to holiday music. Much to the chagrin of my family, I buy one new CD each year so that I never run out. Actually they are getting off lightly. My Mom used to start playing Christmas music in September.
5. Treat yourself to a night of Christmas movies. A bowl of popcorn, a glass of eggnog and Miracle on 34th Street is in my opinion, pretty close to perfect. Okay, you might have to watch it on your own, and on the second TV.
6. Pile everyone in the car and then go for a drive around the town admiring all of the lights. I used to just love this as a kid.
7. Remember... Christmas only comes once a year, so make the most of it. You are never too old to enjoy the holiday.
Tips:
- I don't think a year went buy when we didn't hear Alvin the Chipmunk getting yelled at. See below for a copy if you don't already have one!
- Pop popcorn and then string it for the tree. It's best to pop it one day and then string it the next. Won't break as much when it's a little stale.
