1910 Fashion

The first bra was patented by Mary Jacobs. It was little more than two handkerchiefs stitched together.

Underwear was simplified... meaning less lacing and women could actually breathe!

The Hobble Skirt
Imagine a skirt that narrowed between the knees and the ankles and allowed a few tiny steps at a time. Luckily, it didn't last very long.

In 1913, a Canadian named Gideon Sundback patented the zipper but it wasn't to become popular until the 1930's. It was originally designed for men's trousers, but it soon became popular for all kinds of clothing. Where would we be without it? When it was first introduced, it looked so complicated, it actually came with instructions.

Hats
The hat you wore during this decade actually gave away your age as hats were designed with this in mind. Okay, you could cheat and wear a hat designed for a 30 year old when you were really fifty. I imagine that happened a lot!
