Top 7 Tips For a Beauty Pack Rat

Guide Picks

If you are anything like me, you think nothing of picking up a new shadow, a new beauty magazine or one of the lastest shades of lipstick. This can get you into trouble. Is your house being over-run by your beauty purchases?

1) Decide Why

Your bathroom is a mess. There are products on the counter, in every drawer. Ask yourself why you need every item.

2) Pack It Up

I happen to love bath soaps, but have you ever noticed how long each bar lasts? I want to use a bar a few times and then move onto my next find. So what do I do? I slip the soap into a plastic bag and put it away. That way, I can try the next bar, but come back to the old bar at a later date... and enjoy it all over again.

3) De-cluttering the Purse

I have to admit that my purse sometimes gets so heavy that it makes my shoulders ache. I'm not kidding! Now in my purse, I carry two compacts. One with several shadow shades and another with several lipstick shades. I really didn't need the brush, the eyeliner, and all those tubes of lipstick. Now I carry just what I find myself using the most... and my back is much happier.

4) The Money You Will Save

I have really slowed down my buying habits by choosing something that I would really like to have. I purposely chose something quite expensive, so that I have to work toward it. To be able to purchase it, I know that it is important to save in other places. Giving up a lipstick so that I can buy the latest foot massager, is something that I can live with.

5) Toss Out The Old

Eye shadow seems to last forever and I know that it is difficult to throw away makeup that looks perfectly acceptable, but these products can be full of bacteria after several months of sitting in your bathroom. Think about it... do you want bacteria anywhere near your eyes? And how many eye shadows can you really use?

6) Rip and Recycle

Magazines are heavy. Trust me, I learned this the hard way when I moved to our present house. I don't like throwing them away just in case there is an article that I might be able to use in the future. Needless to say, having to move 20 something years of magazines did not impress my husband. Now I tear out the articles I need and recycle the rest of the magazine.

7) Same Goes For Your Closet

Actually I have two closets... one for my summer clothes and one for my winter clothes. Sorting the seasons out, makes it much easier to see what I have and more importantly, what I'm not wearing. Giving those items away gives you a lot more room. There is nothing worse (in my mind) than a junky closet. I used to keep tops that I didn't even like anymore... don't ask me why!
