How To Avoid North Pole Skin

Sometimes it feels as if I am living at the North Pole. The winds are howling, the snow is blowing... what is this doing to our skin? Today we are looking at effective ways to protect it.

Difficulty: N/A

Time Required: n/a

Here's How:

1.   Use lip balms on the skin around the nails. This helps prevent hangnails.

2.   Avoid any cleanser that makes your skin feel dried out.

3.   Your face will love to be treated to a mask once a week. I personally love the ones that you heat up.

4.   Keep your lips hydrated with lipbalms all winter long. They are probably exposed more than any other part of the body. Be sure to look for one that offers sun protection.

5.   Showers shouldn't be overly hot and not too long in duration. You will simply be washing away any oil that your skin was trying to save. And while skin is damp, slather on a good moisturizer.

6.   Try to cut down on your caffeine consumption. It has a diuretic effectic causing the skin cells to lose fluid.

7.   Wash your hair only when necessary. Harsh winter temperatures are bad enough on your hair without stripping all of the oil.

8.   Pay lots of attention to yor decolletage. Make sure that you cleanse it gently to remove dead skin cells and sweat and then treat it to a light body oil or moisturizer.

9.   There are so many gorgeous hand lotions with fragrances that could compete with a lot of colognes on the market. Take advantage of them. I keep a bottle in my desk so that I don't forget.

10.   Don't forget the sunscreen. Look for ingredient such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and Parsol 1789 as they all indicate a broad-spectrum product.

Tips:

  1. Cold weather contributes to split and chipped nails, cracked hands and dry cuticle.
  2. In the shower use a shower gel that is moisturizing rather than a simple bar of soap which often contains detergents.
