Q. How can I create a simple scarecrow costume?

A.

Actually, it's quite easy. Here's what you will need.
  • old trousers, a shirt that has seen better days or an old jacket if you need warmth.
  • raffia or wool... for the straw
  • brown paper bag, crumpled for the mask
  • crayons or marker to decorate mask
1. Gently crumple the paper bag and then draw where the eyes will be. Cut out. Using crayons or marker, color in features as desired.

2. Glue raffia or wool to the top of the bag to resemble hair.

2. Once bag is on head and the eye openings are sufficient, secure the neck area with string or tape in place.

3. Pull on the pants, shirt or jacket. If you have time, a few patches make the costume look even better.

4. A bit of wool dangling out of the pant cuffs and sleeves looks just like straw but is a little softer than raffia... but the choice is yours.

6. A floppy brimmed hat similar to what Jed Clampet would have worn will complete your costume. Now go and have fun.
