How To Create a 1920's Face

The twenties offered a lot of variation in makeup and hairstyles. Here is just one look that you might want to create.

Difficulty: N/A

Time Required: n/a

Here's How:

1.   Cleanse face.

2.   Apply moisturizer.

3.   Apply foundation. The colors popular at this time included ivory and peach shades.

4.   Powder the face well using a lighter shade than the foundation you are using.

5.   Eyeliner... needs to be very thick and very black. In the 1920's emphasis was on the eyes and the mouth.

6.   Eye Shadow... look through what you have for a green, a turquoise shade and then mix in a little charcoal shadow for good measure. Applied to upper lid and then smudged to just over the bone.

7.   Rouge... again very colorful set against a white face. Try berry shades. Apply only to the apples of the cheeks. Do not blend.

8.   Lips... as the 20's moved toward the thirties, the color got darker and darker. Try roses, or any shade of red that you might have on hand. Paint your lips Betty Boop style. That's the shape you looking for.

Tips:

  1. Lipsticks in the twenties were often cherry scented .
  2. Mascara in the twenties was very different from what we see today. It came in cake or cream form. But it was the tiny drops of liquid wax was applied to the ends of the lashes that made them really unusual.
  3. Hair was cut into a very short bob during the twenties, with equally straight bangs cut well above the brows.
  4. I found a great book that covers this topic. It's called Vintage Face by Angela Bjork and Daniela Turudich. Published by Streamline Press.
