GOT CELLULITE? GIVE MESOTHERAPY A SHOT

by Dr. Marion Shapiro

Cellulite is the bane of many a woman's existence. While we have had the science to send astronauts into space for decades, until now a permanent cure for cellulite has remained illusive. Endermologie is costly and only temporary, and those expensive department store creams do nothing but temporarily plump the skin. According to recent research, 95 percent of women suffer from cellulite. So what is cellulite? Cellulite results from a combination of fatty tissue and fluid retention. Typically (although not exclusively) a female problem, it can affect women of all ages irrespective of their weight. In women, fat cells on the lower part of the body store fat six times more readily than those on the upper body. They also release them six times less readily. This makes weight loss from the lower body almost impossible without the upper body suffering unnecessarily. The answer? Mesotherapy.

Originally a medical technique devised in 1952 by Frenchman Dr Michel Pistor to treat such conditions as Rhumatology, Sports Traumatology, Infectious diseases, Vascular diseases and the improvement of circulation, Mesotherapy has subsequently been extremely successful in the treatment of aesthetic conditions. Cellulite/orange peel effect and weight loss can be effectively managed with the use of Mesotherapy. The treatment stimulates the mesoderm, or middle layer of the skin, which in turn helps to disburse the cellulite. Dr. Marion Shapiro is a New York and New Jersey based physician who has been at the forefront of this technique and successfully treats hundreds of patients per month, with 50% of them seeking treatment specifically for cellulite.

THE TREATMENT Mesotherapy melts the fat in the skin via painless injections and breaks up the network of connective tissue fibers that form trapping fat cells and resulting in cellulite. Mesotherapy breaks the bands of connective tissues by injecting small amounts of homeopathic medicine immediately beneath the surface of the skin (mesoderm) to break down the cellulite and to improve circulation and lymphatic and venous drainage. Each treatment takes about ten minutes and is not painful. After the treatment patients can return to normal activities. After an initial consultation patients are informed as to how many treatments they will require which is determined by how much cellulite and dimpling he/she has. The treatment is permanent and the results are measurable as long as patients do not gain more than fifteen pounds. Legs, buttocks, abdomen, back and arms can be treated with equally good results.
