Competing With Younger Women
Are you comparing yourself to 30 year olds?
I hadn't thought about this topic until someone pointed it out to me, and now I'm going to point it out to you. Are you still comparing yourself to other women? At 51, I suddenly realized that I was still comparing myself to all the other "women" half my age at the gym. The problem was... I didn't see myself as a 51 year old woman. For that matter, I rarely think about my age at all. Physically, I might be 51, but I certainly don't feel it inside and I was not pleased to see these women with smaller waistlines than I had. Here are a few things to help break that self-destructive habit...
*You deserve to be happy. You have raised your family, younger women haven't had that opportunity or experienced the sleepless nights that accompany them. All of that is behind us now. We have accomplished so much, but rarely take the time to give ourselves a much deserved pat on the back.
*For the most part, our acne days are behind us, and if we have taken care of our skin over the years, we have far fewer wrinkles than the previous generation. And if that isn't enough, there are all kinds of products now being formulated to help hide those tiny lines.
*It's time for us to stop thinking that gray hair is a sign of old age. It's the gray hair combined with old hairstyles that make a lot of women look old. Don't trade in your gray hair, book a trip to the salon and trade in that old hairstyle instead. Silvery-gray hair with the right cut, can be incredibly trendy!
*One of the problems that I see with women our age, is that getting older scares some women and instead of dressing with sophistication, they go on a shopping spree, buying items that their daughters wouldn't even be caught dead in... granddaughters perhaps, I say with a groan. We don't need to wear belly shirts or whatever the latest fad happens to be.
*I know that I probably don't have to tell this age group about the benefits of sunblock, but just one more time. We still need its protection. We can unfortunately still develop wrinkles.
*Above all, pamper yourself in any way that appeals to you. We didn't have time twenty years ago... we have the time now.
