Estee Lauder Finds a Way to Market Youth Dew

Quick Tip

Estee Lauder released Youth Dew to woman in 1953. Because women did not buy fragrances for themselves (during that decade), Lauder formulated the scent into bath oil and lotion. The interesting thing about this product was the fact that it could double as a fragrance as well as a bath oil and in the first year Youth Dew sold 50,000 bottles.

But is this retro fragrance still popular? I checked the official site and Youth Dew is currently available in dusting powder, body creme, an anti-perspirant, Eau de Parfum, a body lotion and the original bath oil. I would say, that this fragrance is just as popular as it ever was! And just in case you are wondering, the reason it is so popular is because of it's subtle oriental fragrance and unusual coloring... black!
