February 11, 2004Celebrities Glam Up to Raise Money for HIV/AIDSChristina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Boy George, Chloe Sevigny and Linda Evangelista Are The New Faces Of M.A.C VIVA GLAM Some of the most famous faces in the world are doing good by looking good. Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Boy George, Chloe Sevigny and Linda Evangelista are taking time away from their red-hot careers to become the new faces of M.A.C's VIVA GLAM FIVE Campaign. The popular cosmetic company founded the M.A.C AIDS FUND (MAF) in 1994 to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. Each year since, MAF has raised money to fund education, awareness and prevention programs and to provide financial assistance to organizations serving those with HIV/AIDS. To fund MAF, M.A.C created the VIVA GLAM lip color, with 100 percent of its proceeds given to HIV/AIDS charities that provide direct care services and daily essentials to those effected with HIV and AIDS.Now, these five artists are combining their star power as the faces of the new VIVA GLAM FIVE SHADE. As always, every penny will go to HIV/AIDS-related organizations worldwide. Every $14 lipstick sold can make a huge difference. For organizations in Africa dedicated to helping with the virus, the sale of one lipstick can pay for: One month of food, shelter, medical aid and schooling to a child orphaned by AIDS. One dose of antiretroviral drugs to four mothers and their babies to reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission from mother to child. For organizations within the United States, it can pay for: A week of groceries for people living with HIV/AIDS Five days of housing for a family of three Four HIV tests enabling people to learn their status, access care and prevent infection Those are just a few examples of what one sale can pay for. AIDS is now the leading cause of death worldwide. Every year, there are 40,000 new infections in the United States, half of which are people under 25. M.A.C VIVA GLAM can be purchased at any M.A.C cosmetic counter nationwide. ------------------------ Produced for M.A.C CONTACT: Joanne Freed, 212-453-2131 February 2004 (Newstream) -- |
