Suffer From Dry Skin During Winter? Invest in a Humidifier

By February 15, 2013

Follow me on:

For years while living in New York City, I suffered from winter itch. My entire body would itch and I'd scratch my skin sometimes until it bled. I never suffered these sorts of winters in Texas or Seattle, so what's the deal with NY? The problem was the furnace heat was drying my skin out terribly. Furnaces wipe out humidity in a room and will sap your skin of its moisture. The secret to fixing my dry winter itch was not to slather on more creams and oils. While this helped, I preferred to solve the problem rather than find a way to Band-Aid it. So what was the secret? It was to invest in a humidifier, this little $60 beauty pictured here that my boyfriend picked up at Target. We turned it on and...

...problem solved.

Now that my boyfriend and I sleep with a humidifier in the bedroom, it has made a world of difference to my skin. Our little humidifier is a small one, actually made for a baby's room, but it works for us, because our Brooklyn bedroom is pretty small. If you live in a gigantic house in the suburbs somewhere, you might consider getting a big humidifier.

For dry skin on my face I use Apothederm http://apothederm.com/
They have an amazing moisturizing cleanser and moisturizing cream. They work better than anything else I’ve tried.
