No, You Can't Close Up Those Crater Pores of Yours

Editor's note: Julyne is on vacation. This is a popular blog post from 2007 that is relevant today. Enjoy!

For years, I figured magazine editors knew what they were talking about when they wrote that a splash of cold water can close up your pores. It's a myth. A big, fat beauty myth. Pores do not open and close like a Venus flytrap. In fact, if you have big pores you might as well get used to them because there is no lotion or potion or laser that can fix them permanently. That said, there are some lotions that can diminish their appearance. "Pores No More" by Dr. Brandt actually works (I bought the stuff and tried it), but only for a few hours. (Read about my meeting him and buying the stuff a few years ago).

Has anyone tried Clinique’s Pore Minimizer?? It fills in the pores, it works great but doesn’t last all day. I am wondering if anyone knows how it compares to Dr. Brant’s product for pores.

A friend of mine uses Clinique Pore Minimizer Refining Lotion and Retin A for treating large pores she developed as an adult. I haven’t tried it but she loves it.

try egg whites, it worked wonders for my pores, I’ve been using it since I turned 21 and I’m 26 now, people still say I have the skin of a 18 year old
