The New York Times recently had an article in its Skin Deep section about makeup primers ("The Primer on Primer"), the product one puts on to "prime" the skin or lashes or lips or nails for makeup. It turns out primers are enjoying their moment in the limelight as the Times reports US sales of primers jumped 73 percent in the years between 2006 and 2011. The phenomenal growth in sales of eyeshadow, foundation and mascara primer has fueled new types of primers, including nail and under-eye primers (for concealer).
So is all the hype worth it? I've been using primers for years, so I think it absolutely is. But you don't need a primer for everything. I give you the scoop on what makeup primers you really need in my new article, "Makeup Primers: The Scoop on Eyeshadow, Foundation and Mascara Primers."
