The New York Times reports the hot new trend among young trendsetters is gray hair. Yes, you read that correctly. It seems fashionistas like Kate Moss & Pixie Geldof, pictured here, are tipping, streaking and bleaching their hair the color women (and men) across the world spent $1.3 billion to cover up last year, according to the Times.
Among those jumping on the bandwagon: Pink, who walked the Grammys red carpet with gray tips, 'American Idol' contestant Siobhan Magnus, who sported skunk stripes for the show and Tavi Gevinson, the 13-year-old blogger who rocked the granny look for New York Fashion Week. Speaking of New York (my fair city), salon owners report women have been asking for gray hair for about six months now. <p>
Sounds like a trend that may have peaked among the It Crowd now that the New York Times have outed it to the masses.

i think so…………………………………………………………..i love it.
Hi,
I’m glad to see that more women are not dying their grey, silver & white hair. I have the salt/pepper look going on for 2 yrs. now. I’m 53 & very lucky to look much younger. My hair is a few inches past my shoulders too. That was another no, no for women past a certain age.
After many yrs. of dying my hair from platinum blonde to black, it was very damaged. Now, that I don’t do that, it’s very healthy & shiney.
It’s cute & pretty on the younger men & women too. I had a friend who had 1 grey hair & was going insane about it. But it’s up to each person if they chose to dye their hair or not. Some people start to go grey very early in life. Thanks for writing about this. I live in Chicago & see many men & women with beautiful natural grey hair. I hope that everyone had a wonderful day & night.
I always had awful hair. Dyed it brown, red, black and would have tried purple if it was available when I was younger. Now it is a beautiful silver, and I get lots of compliments! Take a look at the beautiful portraits of the 1700’s…all gray hair!Dark hair on older women looks garish .
ISN’T THIS WEIRD IAM 63 AND STARTED WITH A FEW STRANDS GOING GRAY IN MY 20′S IN MY 40′S I WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY GRAY I WOULD DYE MY HAIR EVERY MONTH DARK BLACK IAM AFRICAN AMERICAN. I GOT SICK OF IT UNTIL MY HUSBAND SAID YOU SHOULD LEAVE IT GRAY IT’S MORE WHITE SO NOW I DO I GET MORE COMPLIMENTS MY SAME JAZZY 60′S STYLE AND PURE WHITE GRAY IT’S SO RELIEVING I DID IT BEFORE THIS LITTLE IN STYLE TODAY GONE TOMORROW THING MY SEVEN KIDS SAY IAM STILL COOL(SMILE)
I love the platnium color! It is stunning….natural or not.
As a hairdresser, I think the grey being mentioned as streaks and tips are actually color! Even the girl in the picture… it is bleached and then toned to give that effect. I hate to say it but, they are now a double process color as opposed to a single process. This is actually costing them more $!! I have a friend that I make an ash blonde…. and we joke that we make her grey when everyone else pays to cover the grey!
I have had silver hair since my early 40’s, I am now 70 and used to get compliments about my “lovely ash blonde” hair for years. I used to had a private laugh at those kind words but I never wanted to colour my hair once it was grey. It just looks so much healthier left au natural.
I let my short hair go about three years ago. It’s the best move I have ever made. No more sitting every three weeks to cover the gray, no expense, just wash, blow dry and GO!
Since I’m getting older, love all these compliments on gray hair (mine’s about 5%) but I think its only more attractive if you are at least pretty to begin with, and, as previously mentioned, its shiny and healthy looking. I’m a former hairstylist, and most of the gray heads were lifeless looking. Gray is not, in itself, a flattering color.
For those of us who disagree that gray hair is becoming, there’s an all natural supplement, Go Away Gray, that within 4-6 weeks turns your gray hair back to its original color. go to http://www.wakeupontime.com for more information!
