I once tried on a red wig and couldn't believe I looked good in it because I looked completely washed out in the black wigs and the brown wigs that I'd tried on before. Not only did I look good in it, but somehow I felt sultrier.
If you're curious about going red or transforming your own look, I would advise to NOT DO IT YOURSELF. Any time you go more than 2 shades darker or lighter or transform your look with an entirely new color, put your head in the hands of a paid professional. I can't tell you how many emails I get from people who hate their color and want to fix it at home. My advice to them is "get thee to the salon."

I love the way red hair looks, but I’m yet to find a red dye (even in a salon) that doesn’t fade really quicky. Every time I’ve had it done, the red has been orange-looking within about 6 washes.
My hair is, naturally, a dark, auburn-brown and I have over the years dyed (or had it dyed by a professional) about every shade of red there is…However the shade in the picture is even too red for me! LOL I also agree with Lisa’s post….red dyes fade VERY quickly, even salon dyes.
Actually, I used [from Sally's Beauty Supply] the L’Oreal Excellence HiColor Red Highlights, with 20-lift, and protein pack. Yes, I went that red for years. No, it’s not for the timid. Yes, it requires specialized maintenance – no standard shampoos [sulfates are what drain the color out - lifts the cuticle right off the cortex, and loses the pigment to the yellowed tone of the cuticle].
Also, apple cider vinegar dilutions and silicone-based hair serums are definitely a girl’s best friend.
I’ve been redder and I LOVE it. I’m a fan of… Different hair styles, and my hair has been dyed black with a thick fire engine red streak on my right front section that covers my eyes. That section used to be my bangs, but now it’s longer than the rest of my hair, which is a reverse bob. It’s really short in the back! I used Splat! colouring, which I do recommend if you want very, very bright and vibrant colours, want to stand out, or enjoy making a statement with your hair. My next colour? Black, with the red streak dyed royal blue.
P.S.: I do all my work myself, and it always turns out exactly how I want it! <3
