A Few Random Beauty Tips to Thank You for Voting
Thursday November 6, 2008
I have been in a CNN daze and am just now breaking out of it to fulfill my promise of awarding you with 10 beauty tips to thank you for voting:
1. To keep lipstick in place (yes, people still wear lipstick), try filling in lips with a eye primer, or if you don't have eye primer, try filling in lips with lip pencil first.
2. To keep lipstick off your glass, lick your lips before taking a sip.
3. Skip lip plumpers, they work because they have a formula that irritates lips and the effect last only a few minutes.
4. Toner is meant for copy machines, not the average woman's face. They tend to be drying, so unless you are oily and acne-prone, save your money.
5. If you use eyeliner pencils, set the line with eyeshadow. This will keep the shadow from melting onto your lid.
6. Obsessed with cellulite? Skip the pricey creams which are spiked with caffeine and like lip plumpers, only work for mere moments. Mask dimples with a self-tanner or a spray tan and remind yourself that almost every woman has some cellulite.
7. Yes, you want to save the environment, but you can't always trust product packaging that claims to be "organic," "natural" or environmentally-friendly.
8. Add valuable hours to your life by embracing your hair's natural texture. Spend the time you used to spend manipulating your hair talking to your child, sleeping in an extra 30 minutes, reading the newspaper or watching the snow fall.
9. The one anti-aging miracle product that many dermatologists swear by is retinoids. Ask your dermatologist or doctor about Retin-A or the more moisturizing Renova.
10. Just as there are two guarantees in life (death and taxes), there are two secrets to great skin (good genes and staying out of the sun).
And an extra bonus tip:
11. If you have a 'tween or teen in your life, realize that she's likely struggling with body issues. Take a moment to sincerely compliment her on something that makes her extra special. Call out her striking eyes or her luminous skin or the way she tells a story. She may roll her eyes, but your compliment will plant itself somewhere in her burgeoning brain and will likely stay there for a very long time.

I like that you offered tips on both inner and outer beauty. Thanks.
That is funny that you had to note that people still wear lipstick. I totally do not - ever since Chanel Glossimer and YSL Golden Gloss I don’t touch lipstick. Don’t know why - I think it just is not as fun to put on.
omg, i still love love love lipstick. :0) i think i own about 45 tubes of the stuff, and i can never get enough. yes, gloss is fun, but it never really seems to stay and often feels too sticky (and i’ve tried many different brands). just wanted to give a shout out for lipstick!
Oh THANK YOU for addressing both inner AND outer beauty!! Outside beauty reminds me of a beautifully wrapped gift- many times over the years we receive gifts and the ones that were truly the best gifts ever, in our minds at least, I bet most people can’t even remember what it was wrapped in. They only remember how much they loved and appreciated the present!!
thankx for ur amazing tips .
lip stick & lip gloss r amazing stuffes but fortunately they didn’t last for long time just as anything beautiful in life.
but just wanna know somthing how to make ur skin looks healthy ( not pale or tired) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great tips, thank you. Particularly liked the bonus one; that was sweet.
I’m putting my hand up as another lipstick obsessive, too. *g*
HI,
I do love lipstick & lip gloss. But I have to say that I prefer lipstick. I have alot of makeup too. I can’t resist buying it most of the time. I will wear lipgloss when my lips get too dry.
I also used retin-A for yrs. now. It does make a big difference. I’m 52. I will not say that it can keep your face totally perfect. But I do look much younger than I am. Many people tell me that too. Judy from Chicago.
No toner?! Although some toners can be drying, I can’t imagine skipping my excellent aloe-based one to prep my skin for better moisturizer absorption and truly clean skin. You don’t skip the rinse cycle in your washer, do you? Get a great toner for your skin type and I’ve seen the difference it can make for women’s skin.
I’m with Barb. I couldn’t imagine not using my toner.
Love the tips!!
Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I’ve decided the way to elicit nice comments as opposed to snarky comments is to not write nice entries, rather than snarky ones (see last Palin post).
As for toner, of course if you love yours and it’s working for you, keep it up. But I’ve done my research on the matter and this is what I’ve found: http://beauty.about.com/od/toner/f/tonernecessary.htm
I stopped using toner a few months ago (it got confiscated at an airport!)and I never started again, because I realised my skin actually didn’t need it. Maybe when I’m older and I alter my routine, I’ll need it.
As for having 45 lipstick tubes… That’s great for you
but how does one woman suit so many different shades?! You must have a very flexible natural colouring that allows you to suit almost any shade, but personally I’ve only found about 4 or 5 GOOD QUALITY shades in my entire life, that really makes my skin and eyes pop!
Su–
The older you get, the drier your skin gets and toner is drying so I doubt you’ll need toner ever again.
And I agree with you about the lipstick. I have only 4 colors I use.

Well, just because i too have 45 plus tubes of listick (but they all looked so good in the store), I have found that I favor most only a few. I finally found one that I can’t live without though. So, maybe I can start limiting my supply.
Thank you for the final tip too. My son is now a teenager. He’s basically a well-grounded kiddo but I can tell how much he appreciates kind words, even if they’re “just” from mom.
