Two Ingenious Uses for Baby Oil: One for the Bathroom, the Other for the Kitchen
Thursday October 30, 2008
A few weeks ago one of you wrote in with a excellent tip to avoid razor burn in the shower. She suggested slathering on baby oil in the tub to soften skin, then applying shaving cream. A few readers were skeptical as was I. We wondered: "Doesn't the baby oil wash off in the shower?"
Today, I tried it and the baby oil worked so well, I skipped the shaving cream. Since oil and water don't mix, the oil stubbornly stayed on throughout the duration of the shower and I emerged nick- and razor-burn free with the smoothest softest legs.
Here's another excellent use of baby oil that I learned from my neighbor's housekeeper: Use it to polish your stainless steel appliances. Of course I was skeptical about this one too, until I tried it. It works!

It is great for shaving and skin softening….but be careful cause it will clog you drain.
also if you want your hands to feel really soft mix sugar and baby oil and rub on hands then rinse.
Be careful….the oil makes the tile very slippery. Even if you don’t slip, the next person in the tub or shower might very well.
Oh, the constant war against razor burn and bumps! My skin is soooo sensative and annoying that way. I am embarassed sometimes to even show my legs after a shave. Thanks again for the tips. And the tips about being careful when using the oil gals!
Try this next time you shave: run a warm bath with baby oil added.
soak for as long as you can (20-30 mins is perfect) then shave.
when you run your hands over your legs, you’ll agree, you’ve never felt softer skin.
have your partner do the same to confirm : )
Two comments:
1) I love to use baby oil on my heels; put on socks overnight. So soft and smooth! =)
2) Clean your sink/appliances before applying the baby oil - the baby oil only makes it shine and a small amount goes a long way.
Baby oil is absolutely wonderful and a cheap way to get off even the most stubborn mascara and eyeliner and make up in general!
You should never use baby oil near your eyes. A good eye makeup remover is much safer. Mary Kay has a great one!
Oily, dust magnet appliances? Yuck. You’d be better off leaving them clean, or put a coat of wax on.
Fluffy,
Yes, one would think baby oil would leave the appliances covered in an oil-slick which would attract dust, but that actually does not happen. If it did, I wouldn’t use baby oil on my appliances (wink).
Baby oil does, however, leave the tub slick, so you should be careful if you use it in the shower.
