5 Great Uses for Your Average Washcloth
Tuesday October 28, 2008
Washclothes are a great beauty staple. They work as a natural exfoliant, can be used to reduce puffy eyes and are great for adding dewiness to skin. Here are some of my favorite uses, weigh in with yours:
1. Use a warm washcloth at night to gently remove makeup or cleanser. Simply apply cleanser to face and then massage the wet washcloth in circle motions around the face. This will remove flaky skin. Try a super-soft baby washcloth if you have extra sensitive skin.
2. Late night, puffy morning? Reduce puffiness with a washcloth soaked in ice water. Press the cold washcloth on face and hold. This is a trick I learned backstage at Fashion Week in NYC from makeup artists. They use washclothes on models who come in hung over.
3. Use a damp washcloth to gently exfoliate flaky lips before applying gloss or lip balm.
4. Washclothes in the shower are better than shower poufs because they harbor less bacteria. Be sure to change yours out every day.
5. At night before you go to bed, treat yourself to a spa-like experience by wetting a washcloth in hot water and ringing it out then applying to face until it cools. Follow up with moisturizer and you're set for the night.

Great tips! I have tons of baby washclothes… now I can put them to good use! thanks!
yeah. great ideas! i never even thought of pouffs as holding bacteria. i don’t know why. and i have a wash cloth in the bath that i change out, but i wonder about frequency many times. now i know! thanks!
I used washcloths when my sons were teething. Simply get the washcloths wet, put them in a ziploc bag and put in the freezer. When teething pain starts to bother the babies, take a cloth out of the bag and give to the kids. The roughness of the washcloth helps their gums and the coolness helps with the swelling and pain. My sons used to end up practically sucking the cloths dry so be sure and wash them carefully and completely.
I’VE ALWAYS SAID TO OTHERS THAT A WASHCLOTH IS THE BEST FACILE & BODY EXFOLIENT !!!!
Thank you for mentioning the poufs. I didn’t even think about them holding bacteria. Yuk. I need to go directly to Wal-Mart and get me more. I like the idea about the efoliating too. That will be great for the winter.
They are also great for “boo-boos”. Keep wet ones frozen in a ziploc bag for the next time your child falls and needs an ice pack. Also works with a (clean, never used) sponge, but the washcloth can be washed after use:)
Not a beauty tip but a cleaning one. I got tired of always having to buy the expensive swiffer cloths.
So I just take a wash cloth and pin it around the swiffer base and wipe up the bathroom and kitchen floors. When done, take it outside and shake it and throw in wash.
No more expensive swiffer cloths
Using face cloths as cold compresses when you have headaches works wonders. Use cold water and lay it across your eyes or around your neck.
Also, to clear sinus, apply a warm facecloth across the face, remove and soak it in cold water, repeat – great for congested skin too.
