Let's Play "Make Over the Candidate"

Friday August 29, 2008
No matter your political preference, if there's one thing we may all agree on it's that McCain's pick for Vice President is gorgeous. Palin's a natural beauty with chiseled cheekbones, chocolate eyes and full lips. But a stylist has got to get their hands on her hair, which in my opinion makes her look at least 10 years older than she is (44).

I look forward to seeing her almost certain transformation over the next few weeks. Will she get the typical politico helmet head, modeled these days by Michelle Obama? Will she go soft and layered and oh-so-feminine like Cindy McCain? Or will she be daring and get a sleek bob cut like this one modeled by Christina Ricci? I vote for the latter.

Michelle Obama does NOT have helmet head! WTF?

It wasn’t meant as a criticism since, for the record, I love Michelle and her hair, especially when pulled back in a bun like it was the day after her big speech.

The point is many women politicians and newscasters wear the helmet hair and I’m curious what type of hairstyle this candidate is going to end up with.

Sorry if I offended you.

Do you think shhe should dye her hair?

(4) Julyne says:

Yes, I think she should dye her hair. This look is super blah. She would look good either darker or lighter. I’d like to see a chestnut brown on her.

Perhaps she should get something short like Hillary Clinton, fashionable and still professional. Go Hill!!!!

Michele’s hair definitely needs improvement -

Curious, but what is it exactly that you don’t like about Palin’s hair, that you think ages her? I’m neither agreeing nor disagreeing, just wondering.
Is it the ‘big hair’aspect of it? To me, she looks a bit like a soap opera star with back-combing…sort of a 70’s or 80’s look. Is that what you mean? Not sure the color is so bad- or was that comment about Obama’s hair? Couldn’t tell. Palin’s hair already appears a chestnut shade, and appears to have been dyed.

ps- I think Obama is a gorgeous woman too- but I don’t particularly like her hair. To me it does have the corporate helmet-head look, but that seems to be the idea in the corporate world- sleek and professional (and borrrrrring….lol…sorry, that’s just my opinion..)

Hi Jenny,

Palin has had a makeover since her candidacy was announced and it’s better. Her hair is now darker with highlights and although she still sporting the updo, her hair is glossier and much more polished than in this picture.

Here, her hair is super dated, which ages her in my opinion. The pouf on top is dated. The bangs are dated. The color is blah.

This, of course, is my opinion. I’m sure there are many out there who love it.

As for Michelle, I hear you. I do think her hairstyle is much more modern than Palin’s though.

I think Palin’s hairstyle is very chic. It highlights her no-nonsense attitude. Her psychological statement is power and determination to get the job done.

Well, I guess since there was so much talk about
Sen. Edwards’ hair, I guess we can talk about Palin’s hair, but for Pete’s sake!! — is that what you think is important to talk about?

(13) June says:

I hope that she keeps the helmut hairdo.

(14) Rita says:

I can’t stand looking at her. Her political views will put women back into the dark ages. Her so called beauty is flawed by what she is……a hypocrite!

A in Oak Park,

This is my beauty blog and yes, I find it appropriate to comment on the status of a major political candidate’s hair, especially when said political candidate is from a tiny town in Alaska and has suddenly found herself on a national stage with a bad pouf from the 80s.

I was simply curious to see how they make her over.

Cheers!

(16) Deborah says:

Amen Rita!! Her views are old and outdated; so I really do not care about her hair. I see her as undoing all the good things that has happened to and for women in the last 15 years. I too do not see a beauty, I see a hypocrite

(17) Pudenda Shenanigans says:

I love her hair!!!

It is currently the most popular hair and wig style in America, not to mention her rimless glasses are all the rage.

Sarah is a true woman. She can have a family, chose to have and love her new precious baby, she broke up the corrupt ‘Old Boy’s Network’ in Alaska, and did it all on her own not on the back of any man or husband.

Everything she has done she did with her own grit. I can’t wait to vote for her!

September 17, 2008 at 2:47 pm
(18) Me says:

I also love Sarah’s hair – but so what!!

It is short-sided for all you “city” girls to dump on her just because she gets her hair done in a “small” town, believing that her style is dated. Think outside your urban life and realize there are lots and lots of rural people who live and prosper outside your urban “I-am-green-because-I-drive-a-Prius” circle. Being from a small town myself, I think it is silly and small-minded that so much time, money and effort is wasted in keeping up with that moving target that is called “fashion.”

Smart women vote for Palin! Real woman, real issues, real world.

If you don’t want to “see her undoing all the good things that have happened to and for women in the last 15 years” why don’t you trying sticking with issues and forget fashion. Why do you think men think women can’t tackle the real issues? Because you catty, chatty, pretty-on-the-outside-but-ugly-on-the-inside women demean all of us.

(19) Carolyn says:

Lets hope Sarah leaves her hair alone. The only improvement could be letting it grow a few inches longer. I think we’d have enough soccer mom hair around. Let it grow!

(20) Sherry says:

I think Sara looks good. Being a hocky Mom and in the sun she might have sun spots forming. She can eliminate it with a product I use. http://Yourpass2Rejuvenate.agelessskinserum

This is Some great Serum. I use it and love it! I am not a Hocky Mom But I have been a tanner and after the years of being in the sun and age plays a big peart on helping you look older I use this. Spreading the word on a good product.
