Reese Witherspoon's Bob -- Love it or Leave it?

Sunday August 3, 2008
It's official: The hot new hair of summer 2008 is above the shoulders. In June, Reese Witherspoon showed off her newly chopped locks at an Avon event. It's certainly an edgier do than the long hair everyone made such a fuss over at the Academy Awards a couple years back.

If you're interested in this cut, here's what to ask for at the stylist:

1. This is a chin-length bob. The back is slightly shorter than the front and the ends are wispy, not blunt.

2. Ask the stylist to cut in long, side-swept bangs. It's best to have the bangs longer on either side so they can be swept over to the left or the right. Ask the stylist to cut the bangs while dry, so they don't shrivel up too short. (Hair tends to shorten as it dries).

3. If you have a thick head of hair, ask the stylist to remove bulk, or "thin it out." My stylist, Antonio Gonzales, gave me a similar cut a couple weeks ago and he used a razor to thin it out. Some people are super afraid of the razor, but it can do wonders.

What do you think of Reese's new bob: Love it or Leave it?

It’s too blunt for her face shape, in my opinion.

Julyne, You keep talking about your new haircut———Please update the photo on your site. Your new hairdo is probably much more flattering.

Thanks for the site and articles.

It’s nice. She looks older, though, so I doubt that is what she’s going for.

(4) Sunny says:

I think it gives her a much more healthy, natural look. Of course, she could probably wear a bucket over her head and look stunning…But I think this new do provides a better image for someone going for the “natural beauty” look. She glows.

Not a good cut for her…liked her long hairstyle better.

(6) Faye says:

It is an oadorable cut. It looks great on her but then what wouldn’t. It is more stylish than the long boreing hair that every star has. There is a time to gorw up and cut the hair after the teen age years don’t ya think?

(7) Nautica says:

It’s cute but it makes her look like a little girl and not a woman.

Yeah Julyne - - let’s see the new cut!!! I have been wondering about it myself. Yes, I have a semi full life. LOL ;)

(9) JUDY K. says:

HI,
I prefer longer hair on her. I don’t really care for the bob hairstyles to much. Hair looks better with some kind of layers. I had a bob once & did not care for it.

I also disagree that women should cut their hair short when they are out of the teens years. I also disagree that older women should get all of their hair cut off when they reach a certain age. It all depends on how it looks & the condition of your hair. Long hair does not look so great when it is damaged.

I’m 51 & have long hair past my shoulders in a long layered cut. I get alot of compliments about my hair. My hair is very curly. Plus I have alot of silver in it.

It would be nice to see a updated photo of your new hair cut Julyne. Your hair looks nice on the old photo, but I’m sure it looks good now too. Judy K. Chicago.

(10) Bronwyn says:

I agree with JoAnne. The photo on your site makes you look older. It is not flattering. I was surprised when I saw the photo of you with your ‘ponytail’. I didn’t think it was the same person. Show us your new bob.

(11) Stardust says:

I think she looked better with longer hair. But she looks “okay” this way (although EVERYONE is getting that asymetrical bob now. I had it last year and when I saw little girls sporting it, I started growning it out). lol

I love it!

(13) Maritza says:

She looks wonderful.More power to her she had the guts to make the change. We as women need to make change as we go thru change our self and we need to update hair like updating our shoe, makeup, exctra….

(14) Bonnie says:

Reese’s bob is cute, classy, & it makes her look younger, not older.

She looks fabulous!

(16) Coastalcatt says:

I think it looks great on her, and I think bobs, blunt or layered, look good on many people. However, I also agree with all the others who said they’d like to see YOUR new bob. It’s always fascinating to see how different a person looks after going from long hair to a totally different shorter style. So come on, give it up!!

LOVE the cut. She looks fabulous.
Long hair, past the shoulders is for kids.

(18) pam says:

I don’t really care for it, but I can’t explain exactly why. I’m sure she went to the best stylist! I liked the way she had been wearing it, when she and her family were in Paris.

(19) Suzy says:

Her haircut looks “nice”, but as cute as Reese is, she deserves better than “just nice”, don’t you think? Like most of us she probably just wanted a change, even at the risk of the change being a bit less gorgeous than what she already had. I mean hair will grow, and who knows…maybe she had a few dead ends to clip! (year right:-) I wonder if Posh Spice has grumbled about Reese stealing her hairstyle as she did with Katie Holmes? Maybe Reese’s Significant Other simply likes the back of her neck!

(20) Stefanie says:

It’s not a “new hairstyle” for sure. It’s been seen before. It makes her chin prominent rather like an arrow pointing down.
Sorry Reese.

(21) Carolyn says:

I think it’s dreadful. To cut off long beautiful hair for THAT? Yuck.
